#22 Daughter's Parlor

Time for another parlor. This one is for my Daughter Sara who already has several of my ukes and now wants a guitar.

This one follows my standard design for a modified parlor size guitar. The top is a nice piece of Western Red Cedar that I have had in the shop for a while waiting for the right guitar.

On this one we made several things a little smaller to better fit Sara’s hands. It is a 24.75” scale length with a neck width that is basically a Telecaster. For those of us with shorter fingers it fits a little better.

The back and sides are figured sapele. On this one I did a semi-gloss french polish/wax that really brought out the richness of that wood.

The arm bevel has a veneer of burled walnut that we also used on the backstrap of the headstock. Really stunning looking wood that adds a little pop.

The binding is a modern faux tortoise shell (to keep things legal). I used the same binding on #21 and it gives off a little vintage vibe.

In the pic above you can also see the progression of my adjustable action neck joint. I have all of the mechanics the way I want them, but have been experimenting with the look. With this joint, the traditional heel for the neck is unnecessary so I have removed it. The traditionalists may complain but we are not trying to make traditional guitars.

This one turned out nice and really has a smaller parlor feel. But it has a bigger, mid-range, punchy tone. Stay tuned - #23 will be another parlor but with a few more treats.
