In the meantime... a Uke

In the meantime... a Uke | Alright yall . . . I ain't dead and I ain't quit. I have had several people ask me what is going on with the guitar and am WAY behind on my updates. I have been busy getting classes finished up and also letting the guitar settle in. It takes a little while for the wood to realize that it has become a guitar. I will be posting some final photos soon and also I hope to do a little recording so you can hear what it sounds like. In the meantime, I have been building my daughter Sara a custom Ukulele with a Sitka Spruce top and Black Limba (not to be confused with the Black Mamba) back and sides.

This build is going a LOT FASTER than the guitar build. When all is done, it will only have taken about three weeks to get it completed. On this one, I tried my had at some abalone inlay for the rosette. The abalone just adds pop to the deal.

So far, the fit and build of this little uke are MUCH better than my guitar. Learning from all my mistakes on the guitar means this build is a real step up in quality. (Not to toot my own horn - to use the parlance of our times.)

Sara picked out the back and side wood based on the dramatic patterns in the Black Limba. It is a cool looking wood and I think it will finish in a really unique looking Uke.

Just wanted to let everyone know I am still building. After I finish the Uke I have wood to start guitar #2 which will be a complete custom build based on my own specs and design. Really excited to get started on it.
