The Deacon

Another new design: The Deacon. All new specs on this one - trying out a few new old ideas.

I have never owned a Gibson spec’d guitar. All of my electrics have been Fender style with the longer 25.5” scale length. Decided to design this one around the 24.75” scale length. I have also never really tried out P90 pickups. After hearing a couple of Youtuber’s rave about them, decided to give them a try too.

I have been collecting old knobs for while - I dig the ones that look like they came off ‘70s HiFi equipment. Also working some metal options in to the builds. The control scratch plate is made of aluminum.

On the last couple of electric builds, I have been using a vintage ‘50s wiring scheme that allows the volume and tone pot to be more interactive. With this wiring, when the volume is turned down, the is much less cut in the highs. When the tone is rolled back with the volume, you can get almost acoustic type tones.

Everything else is pretty normal: two pickups and a three way switch.

I used flamed maple of the fingerboard, and headstock overlays again. Can’t get enough-o-that.

Just a couple of more shots. The color scheme on this is “Peppermint Mocha” with the classic faux red tortoise pickguard and faded black body. The whole guitar is finished in my shellac, oil, and wax secret formula finish.

Whole new vibe and feel. Rock on…..
